The Dance of Uncertainty was a participatory performance produced as part of a Many Minds artist residency at Arnos Vale Cemetery, Bristol, 1st October 2024 – 7th January 2025.
For this series I was in an Access Volunteer role, supporting workshops and members of Many Minds, an arts-based mental health charity in Bristol, UK. I provided ongoing encouragement, practical and emotional support throughout the series. I also took part in the performance, alongside members, supporting in-the-moment.
Many Minds faced the possibility of having to end, due to ongoing challenges in securing funding. These challenges were shared with members, and The Dance of Uncertainty presented our explorations of what endings mean, and what living with uncertainty felt like. This residency at Arnos Vale was a bold and ambitious project, considering the complexity of exploring endings within a mental health context, and being located within a cemetery. The performance invited the audience to contribute to dreaming with Many Minds, and imagine the future we all wanted for the arts and charity sector.
